Boogie oogie oogie oogie!
Laid-back, harmonica heavy, environmental boogie rock. When paired with their next album, also released in 2019, the heavy metal onslaught, ‘Infest the rat’s Nest’, ‘Fishing for Fishies’ is like the calm before the storm both in sonic landscape and environmental message. The album mostly focuses on the world being slowly buried in plastic and is set to upbeat accessible happy sounding music. The contrast here is a great musical metaphor for humanities willfulness to pay attention to the plastic pandemic before it’s too late.
The music makes a stylistic change for the last two tracks. ‘Acarine’ is mouth harp laced boogie blues about dying bees. It sports a slower tempo and a slightly darker ominous tone that eventually fades into nightmarish 80’s horror movie synth before leading into the next track. A warped sci-fi electro boogie with distorted vocals that sing the lament of the last cyborg. The humans are all gone and a lone Cyborg is left boogieing on his own. Breaking down without human maintenance and just fishing for fishies because I guess that’s just what cyborgs do.
“Cyboogie’s heart is a mess
Cables in knots in his cavity chest
Cyboogie’s feeling depressed
Need to debug and run over the tests
Cyboogie’s ticker ain’t flesh
Pistons and pumps under graphene lattice
No people to service the mess
When he breaks down in spiritual stress”
With a dying earth left buried in plastic, where did the humans go?
The scene is set for the coming heavy metal apocalypse.
Until next time…
How to gut a Fishie. I guess this is a making of video.
